He has left a trail of broken hearts on both sides of the Atlantic.
But after years of enjoying the single life, it appears that Steve Coogan has finally found true love.
The unlikely lothario – who found fame as TV's Alan Partridge – is quietly romancing the British-born actress and restaurant heir China Chow, The Daily Mail can disclose.
According to sources, Mr Coogan, 42, is so smitten that he preparing to propose to Miss Chow, whom he met through mutual friends in Los Angeles last year.
He is also planning to start a family with her.
A former model-turned-actress, Miss Chow, 33, is the daughter of the late model and designer Tina Chow and restaurateur Michael Chow, whose Mr Chow restaurant chain – one of which is in London's Knightsbridge – is a staple favourite among A-list celebrities.
A friend said: "Steve says he's ready to settle down. He's absolutely smitten and hasn't even looked twice at another girl in months.
"Since he met China, Steve has really tamed his partying and carousing and become more focused than ever on being a comedy star in the States. She's been a wonderful influence.
"He's done with the hard living and distractions and has really buckled down in the last year or so. He's talked about having children with China and has dropped some heavy hints that he plans to propose very soon."
Miss Chow is said to have helped him recover from the embarrassment caused by his public feud with former flame Courtney Love.
Mr Coogan and Miss Love – widow of the late rock star Kurt Cobain - were embroiled in a bitter war of words after she alleged that her ex lover supplied drugs to their mutual actor friend Owen Wilson, who later tried to commit suicide.
Mr Coogan acknowledged he and Miss Love were romantically involved, but sent a scathing note and threatened to sue over the comments, which he vehemently denied.
Friends say Miss Chow counselled Mr Coogan throughout the drama – and has been by his side ever since.
"She's really great for him. She's even put her career on hold so they can spend all their time together. They're inseparable," said the confidant, adding that the pair "practically live together" at their homes in London and Los Angeles.

Mr Coogan, who divides his time between London and California, is currently in America promoting his latest comedy, the hotly anticipated Hamlet 2, at the Sundance Film Festival. He flew to Utah last weekend on a private plane accompanied by Miss Chow.
"It was very important to Steve to bring China to Sundance and share this experience," said Mr Coogan's friend, adding that Miss Chow has also forged a close bond with the comic's daughter, Clare, 9, from a previous relationship with Anna Cole, a solicitor.
The friend added: "Steve's a much happier man when he can get away from the attention. Even though China's great at bringing him out of his shell, he's a very shy guy at heart."
Their chemistry was evident to onlookers on Monday night at Sundance, where Mr Coogan was spotted dancing and smooching with his girlfriend at French restaurant Jean Louise.
"They were kissing and cuddling, very affectionate," said an eyewitness. "They looked every inch like a couple deeply in love."
Best known as an actress in such American films as The Big Hit, Miss Chow put her career on hold to spend time with Mr Coogan in England and the U.S. She was also a fixture on the Hawaii set of Tropic Thunder last summer, in which he played a major role opposite Ben Stiller, Tom Cruise and Matthew McConaughey.
Coogan was married to first wife and society beauty Caroline Hickman for 18 months from 2002 to 2004.
The marriage ended after he had a night out with two lap dancers.
