Praise be, Season 2 premiered on Hulu on April 25, welcoming back The Handmaid’s Tale cast that includes Max Minghella, Alexis Bledel, Yvonne Strahovski and Ann Dowd in the adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s Man Booker Prize winning novel.

Who is Elisabeth Moss?

Born Elisabeth Singleton Moss on July 24, 1984 in Los Angeles, California, she is the daughter of two musicians, Ron and Linda Moss.

With the aspiration of becoming a professional dancer, she moved to New York City as a teenager and studied ballet at the School of American Ballet.

After attending the Kennedy Center in Washington DC, she continued studying dance, started to take on acting roles and was later homeschooled in order to manage her busy career schedule.

Elisabeth’s first TV role was in the miniseries Lucky/Chances in 1990 and then two years later, appeared as Cynthia Parks in the TV series Picket Fences and provided her voice for Frosty Returns and Once Upon a Forest.

She went on to star in the film Gypsy, Imaginary Crimes, Escape to Witch Mountain, Separate Lives, The Last Supper and It’s Spring Training, Charlie Brown! before starting her recurring role as Zoey Bartlet in The West Wing, which came to an end in 2016.

In 1999, she had minor roles in Girl, Interrupted opposite Angelina Jolie and Winona Ryder, Anywhere But Here and Mumford.

After appearances on Invasion, Grey’s Anatomy, Medium, The Attic and Day Zero, she was cast in arguably, her most lauded role: Peggy Olsen, the secretary-turned copywriter in Mad Men for which Elisabeth was nominated for a total of five Emmys.

Alongside making her Broadway debut and small parts in comedy films like Get Him to the Greek, she played Detective Robin Griffin in the 2013 Sundance Channel miniseries Top of the Lake, produced by BBC Two and UKTV.

She worked with Alex Ross Perry again on the psychological thriller Queen of Earth and later, supported Tom Hiddleston and Sienna Miller in the drama High-Rise in 2015.

In 2017, she began playing Offred in Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale, for which she received critical acclaim and a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. 

Top of the Lake was also renewed for a second season and released around the same time.
